House Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was met with criticism from conservatives on Thursday after she accused Republicans of attempting to introduce a "fascist" Parents Bill of Rights.

The bill seeks to strengthen the role of parents in their children's education by providing them with the right to know what is being taught in school, have their voices heard, see school budget and spending, protect their child's privacy, and be updated on any violent activity at the school.

In response to the proposed bill, Ocasio-Cortez stated that it targets LGBT youth and censors racial content, telling Republicans to "keep the culture wars out of classrooms." She also asserted that "When we talk about progressive values, I can say what my progressive value is, and that is freedom over fascism."

Conservative figures on social media were quick to express their disagreement and mockery with the Congresswoman's assessment, with Dale Franks tweeting, "So, limiting government power in favor of individual rights is ‘fascist’. Good to know." Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report stated, "BREAKING: Unhinged socialist doesn’t know what fascism is and wants to cut genitals off children," while the Media Research Center wrote, "AOC thinks parents don't have the right to know if their child decides to change genders."

Podcast host Kyle Becker argued that the bill is in fact "anti-fascist," noting that it is "arguing against state-run Woke indoctrination" and that fascism "requires state indoctrination of a populace in order to support the regime." Josh Barnett characterized the situation as "a clown show," while Talk radio show host Joe Pagliarulo stated that Ocasio-Cortez's claim that the bill would force the outing of LGBT youth "is a lie."

Notably, similar legislation has been adopted by multiple Republican-led states, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signing and promoting bills to battle CRT and DEI initiatives in the education system.
