Rolling Stone magazine has been widely criticized after a report from NPR revealed that its October article about FBI's raid on the home of ABC News national security producer James Gordon Meek was misleading.

The article implied the raid was politically motivated and failed to mention the investigation into Meek for child sex abuse. NPR's David Folkenflik reported that Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Noah Shachtman had influenced the framing of the story and requested that the writer avoid using a photograph of Meek. When the writer had to step away for personal matters, Shachtman edited the report to make it appear that Meek was raided for his reporting.

In February, the Department of Justice released an affidavit with shocking details about the charges against Meek. It stated that the FBI had found child pornography images and disturbing chat conversations under the screen name "Pawny4" on Meek's iPhone 8. "Have you ever raped a toddler girl? It’s amazing," read one of the messages.

The report has been met with disbelief and condemnation from many people, including Marisa Kabas, who tweeted: "This is utterly appalling. I’ve written for Rolling Stone, and I have no problem saying it. Journalistic malpractice of the highest form."

In light of this scandal, it is clear that Rolling Stone has compromised its journalistic integrity. By failing to mention the details of the investigation of Meek, the magazine misled readers and attempted to portray him in a sympathetic light. This incident is a reminder of the importance of reliable, accurate, and unbiased journalism.
