The DEA sounds the alarm about a deadly new drug in 48 states.

It’s a combination of Fentanyl and a zombie drug, and it’s said to be one of the deadliest drugs.

During a public safety alert, the Drug Enforcement Agency warned Americans of a drastic increase in drug sales. It’s a mixture of Fentanyl and another drug known as xylazine. Although xylazine is approved for veterinary uses, it’s far from safe for humans.

According to Fox News, “‘Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, Fentanyl, even deadlier,’ DEA administrator Anne Milgram said. ‘DEA has seized xylazine and Fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 states. The DEA Laboratory System is reporting that in 2022 approximately 23% of Fentanyl powder and 7% of Fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine.’”

The potent mixture instantly increases the chances of a person overdosing. Narcan commonly treats Fentanyl overdoses but does not work on xylazine.

That’s not the worst of it. When a person uses xylazine, they can develop a condition called necrosis. This is the rotting of human tissue, so this drug is often called the zombie drug. It can result in severe wounds and lead to amputation.

According to the DEA alert, most Fentanyl making its way into the United States comes from Mexican drug cartels. Those cartels are getting materials from China and producing drugs on the other side of the border.

Healthcare providers were also warned. Xylazine doesn’t always show up and can easily be mistaken for a person overdosing on opioids. Because of that, providers are supposed to check for other signs, such as wounds from necrosis.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the zombie drug in the United States. According to Fox, it was found in most drug samples in Philadelphia in 2021. Fox News spoke with one business owner about the drug. According to the news source, “n February, a Philadelphia business owner and prior drug addict detailed to Fox News Digital how bags of “Tranq dope” were being sold for as little as $4 a pop in his community, describing what it was like walking past groups of maybe three or four people strung out on the streets and smelling of ‘rotting flesh’ from open sores.”

The FDA said it plans to restrict shipments of xylazine and will heighten security on shipments to ensure they are being used legally. Do you think that will really be enough to protect people from the latest deadly drug?
