A Republican Congresswoman introduced a new piece of legislation that would ban non-profits from contributing to election organizations.

Fox News reports that this comes as accusations that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg used significant money to influence the 2020 election come to the forefront.

Republican New York Rep. Claudia Tenney plans to introduce the “End Zuckerbucks Act” on Wednesday. This legislation would change the Internal Revenue Code to block 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations from directly funding political organizations.

Congresswoman Tenney spoke with Fox News Digital and said: “This kind of influence operation by a third party in America’s elections undermines public confidence in the democratic process.”

She continued by saying: “It puts private donors in charge of dictating to government agencies what should and should not be done. We cannot allow organizations like this to flout the law or continue their partisan, private funding of our elections.”

The congresswoman said this is in response to Mark Zuckerberg and his wife donating $250 million to the Center for Tech and Civic Life, which intends to fund grants to local election boards nationwide. This kind of thing can significantly impact who ultimately sits on those election boards, and those election boards make significant decisions regarding how American elections are run up and down the ballot.

Tenney continued in her statement to Fox News Digital by saying:

“It turned out that 99% of it was spent on other things and 92% of it was spent on Democrat-leaning districts, particularly in swing states, with really disproportionate numbers where they can drive up the vote and use it for electioneering and ballot harvesting and other things to really just try to prime the pump in the election.”

She followed this up by saying:

“And it worked because about 42,000 votes basically decided the election of 2020. If you just look at those swing states, we could have had a different result had they gone the other way.”

Fox News reports that after the 2020 election, states such as Florida and Georgia enacted laws that ban private money from being used to fund local elections. They did so in response to outrage expressed by many locals who felt it was unfair to have Zuckerberg’s money playing such a significant role in local election matters. Since that time, the same group that Zuckerberg funded has been accused of trying to find workarounds for those different laws. It seems that Zuckerberg doesn’t want to take any chance by giving up even an ounce of his influence.
