On Tuesday, the political team of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis released a video that juxtaposed graphic images of the results of multiple transgender surgeries with comments made by President Joe Biden on "The Daily Show."

During his appearance on the show, Biden referred to DeSantis' policies as "cruel," specifically citing the treatment of transgender individuals in Florida as "close to sinful."

The video released by DeSantis' team features a split screen, with Biden's appearance on the left and still photos of scars from a double mastectomy and skin graft surgeries on the right. The bottom of the screen reads, "Biden thinks it’s ‘cruel’ Florida banned these surgeries for children."

In the video, Biden expresses his disapproval of the banning of gender-transition surgeries and treatments like puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors, saying, "It's just terrible what they're doing. It's not like, you know, a kid wakes up one morning and says, you know, ‘I decided I wanted to become a man’ or ‘I want to become a woman.’ I mean, what are they thinking about?"

He adds, "They're human beings. It's cruel. And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage; you mess with that, you're breaking the law, and you're going to be held accountable."

DeSantis responded to Biden's comments in a tweet on Tuesday, stating, "It is not ‘sinful’ to prohibit the mutilation of minors. It is not acceptable for the federal government to mandate that procedures like sex change operations be allowed for kids."

Florida recently joined a small group of states that have banned gender-transition surgeries and treatments for minors. While Biden did not specify which policies he was criticizing, it is clear that his comments were directed at DeSantis' policies.
