A massacre inside a Jehova’s Witness church in Germany killed eight people.

An unborn baby was among those that did not survive. When police entered the building, the gunman then shot himself, too.

New information reveals that the gunman was originally part of the church. He left one and a half years ago, which wasn’t on good terms. It’s been reported that police received a tip that the man had a gun and was mentally unstable. However, the man had a weapon license and legally owned a semi-automatic weapon.

The Daily Mail reports, “Philipp Fusz, 35, a German citizen and former member of the religious community in Hamburg, was behind the ‘shooting rampage’ that also injured eight others, four of them seriously, officials confirmed in a press conference this morning.”

Police did not state the motive behind the shooting, and it’s unclear if anyone knows the reason.

Thankfully, the quick response from the police saved many lives. The gunman first approached the church and shot through the window. According to The Daily Mail, “In the terrifying grainy footage, recorded from a distance, the man was seen to walk up to a window of the church and fire off several shots into the Kingdom Hall building from what was likely a semi-automatic pistol - before storming inside.”

Armed policemen were on the scene in under ten minutes. They rushed into the church but did not need to use their weapons. Upon seeing them, the gunman fled before shooting himself with the same gun.

There were approximately 50 people inside the church at the time. They were attending a Bible Study. A special operations unit was nearby, and they were able to be on the scene in minutes.
