If Maryland Democrats Get Their Way, No One Under The Age Of 25 Years-Old From Being Convicted Of Crimes

Democrats in Maryland have gone so far off script with the way that they want to take care of crime issues that it is almost hard to believe.

The Blaze News reports that Democrats in the state have introduced a bill prohibiting anyone under 25 from being convicted of felony murder.

Many who have reviewed this plan believe it would greatly benefit gang members and lawbreakers. They could get away with many violent crimes they might commit in Maryland.

Democrat Charlotte Crutchfield introduced legislation earlier this year. House Bill 1180, the Youth Accountability and Safety Act has drawn many critics since its introduction. However, this doesn’t seem to have deterred some of the Democrats that want to promote their easy-on-crime agenda.

The language of the bill says that it would prevent:

“a person younger than age 25 at the time of the offense from being convicted of murder in the first degree under the State’s felony murder provisions, which classify a murder as being in the first degree if it was committed during the perpetration or attempted perpetration of specified crimes.”

Therefore, it seems certain people would no longer be eligible to be considered for a felony murder charge based solely on their age. That seems wrong to many people.

Del. Christopher Bouchat is the only Republican to throw support behind this bill, and he said: “If minors cannot consent to sex or sign contracts, why are we treating them as adults in the judicial system?”

However, fellow Republican Del. Lauren Arikan said that she would never support such a bill, and she is horrified at its introduction in Maryland.

Given the rising crime situation in Baltimore and throughout the country, it seems like an odd time to introduce legislation that will go easier on criminals. However, that is the priority that Democrats seem like they want to put out at this time. To many, it doesn’t seem like a good idea for those running so many parts of the Maryland government to prioritize this kind of thing.
