Fox News reports that this is one of the top STEM high schools in the United States, seemingly getting much of its funding from China.
The parents’ rights organization Parents Defending Education performed an investigation of Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. They found that the school received more than $1 million in donations from interests linked to China.
The high school has consistently ranked as one of the best high schools in the country, and it has been uncovered that the school received funding from Shirble HK, Tsinghua University (Beijing), and the Ameson Foundation.

The Parents Defending Education obtained the list of donors to the high school, and that list showed that: “all gifts and pledges to the Campaign for TJ as of June 30, 2015, and donations to other funding priorities since the Campaign’s launch in 2013.”

The list also revealed that some of the Chinese-connected organizations that made donations sometimes donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the high school.
Fox News reports that Parents Defending Education said: “The Ameson Education and Cultural Exchange Foundation (Ameson) is a ‘non-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in DC that is dedicated to promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation between China and the rest of the world.’”

PDE said a direct relationship exists between Thomas Jefferson High School and Tsinghua University High School in Beijing. PDE wrote: “In 2015, Tsinghua University High School was established in Beijing, China, built upon the TJ model. The school is across from Tsinghua University, a STEM-focused Chinese university designated as a ‘Strong Base Plan’ school.”

The report also noted: “Faculty representatives from the Beijing-based high school and university visited TJ” to learn about the school’s approach to learning.
President and founder of PDE Nicole Neily stated that the relationship between Thomas Jefferson High School and Tsinghua University High School resembles a Chinese invasion of America’s education system. She spoke with Fox News Digital and said:
“The Trump Administration was able to rein in Confucius Institutes in America’s universities thanks to the Higher Education Act, which required reporting of foreign funding and contracts valued at $250,000 or more per year – yet no such corollary exists in the K-12 setting,"
Many people are concerned about the tight relationship between this American high school and Chinese interests.
