The liberal Democrat mayor in Los Angeles is getting pretty desperate to attract police recruits, and it is beginning to show up in the ways that she is planning to recruit new members.

The Blaze reports that Democrat Mayor Karen Bass recently decided it might make sense to lower the standards set up for the police force, but at the same time, she is actively forcing out members that she deems to have “extremist ties.” This definition is based on her political analysis.

Mayor Bass recently spoke to the Los Angeles Times and said she wants to seek out many changes related to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). She told them she wanted to see “crime reduction, personnel reform, alternative response, and community policing.”

It seems like Mayor Bass wants more people on the police force to do things such as enforce her “red flag laws” to take guns away from law-abiding citizens.

Still, she doesn’t want to keep active-duty police officers who have given so much time and service to help keep the city safe. It might be easy to make a list of objectives you want to have met like that, but it is a lot harder to accomplish all of that when you are actively kicking people out of the police force day in and day out.

The Blaze reports that National Police Association spokeswoman Ret. Sgt. Betsy Branter Smith noted that Los Angeles is one city that is suffering greatly from a staffing shortage because of the anti-police rhetoric that has become popular with some liberal politicians in recent years. This has been something that has kept many people away from wanting to sign up for the police force at all.

Mayor Bass continues to insist that her goals for the police force include getting a “more diverse” police force and getting more candidates for joining the police force overall. However, this is going differently than planned because she also keeps throwing police officers off of the force. Right now, Bass is looking at some unorthodox strategies to recruit more police officers from sources that one might not have expected. For example, she is looking at recruiting from the population of nurses, social workers, and others to find more sources for getting police officers into the system.
