CNN host Don Lemon may have thought his recent comments about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley being "past her prime" would go unnoticed, but her marketing team quickly sprung into action with a clever response.

On Tuesday, Haley's campaign launched new merchandise poking fun at Lemon's controversial remarks. One drink koozie reads "Past My Prime?" while the other says "Hold My Beer."

Haley herself took to social media to promote the new merchandise, tweeting, "For all of you who took issue with the haters saying that we are past our prime...this one's for you," along with a link to her campaign's website.

The whole ordeal started when Lemon got into a heated argument with co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins about a woman's prime years during an episode of CNN's morning show. Lemon stated that a woman's prime is typically in her 20s, 30s, and maybe her 40s, and specifically pointed out that Nikki Haley "isn't in her prime."

Harlow pushed back on Lemon's comment, asking what he meant by "prime," and Lemon ultimately urged viewers to "Google what the facts are."

After the on-air exchange, CNN temporarily removed Lemon from the morning show lineup, and there were even rumors of female staffers threatening to quit if he wasn't fired. However, the network ultimately decided to keep Lemon on, with the condition that he participate in sensitivity training.

Haley's response to Lemon's comments is reminiscent of other presidential hopefuls who have used marketing slogans to promote their candidacies. For example, Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" merchandise was a hit with his supporters during both the 2016 and 2020 elections, while Walter Mondale famously used the tagline "Where's the Beef?" to distinguish himself from Gary Hart during the 1984 Democratic Party primary season.

It remains to be seen whether Haley's campaign merchandise will resonate with voters, but it's clear that her marketing team is not afraid to use a bit of humor to make a point. As the election season heats up, it will be interesting to see how other candidates respond to similar controversies and whether they'll be able to leverage them into successful marketing campaigns.
