Former Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York might be brought before Congress to answer for his actions during the height of the COVID pandemic.

Many people questioned the former Governor’s decision-making process when he was in the Governor’s mansion in the Empire States. Some say that the choices that he made caused excessive deaths and damage from the COVID pandemic.

The New York Post reports that Staten Island Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said the following: “It’s quite possible that the committee will subpoena either [former] Gov. Cuomo or his former chief of staff Melissa DeRosa.”

Efforts to get Cuomo to answer for his actions during the COVID pandemic were rejected in the past because Republicans were in the minority in the House of Representatives. That is no longer the case.

Malliotakis says that she has raised the issue with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) to try to make some progress on getting Cuomo before the House to answer for what he did and did not do during the pandemic. There may be some very insightful information that we can turn up through these hearings in the House.

The New York Post reports that more than 15,000 New Yorkers died in nursing homes during the COVID pandemic, and orders put out by Cuomo at the time may have contributed mightily to that figure. The fact that Cuomo made the fatal error of ordering that people remain in the nursing homes likely made it easier for the disease to spread among some of the most vulnerable people in the country. They might have passed it back and forth to one another, which may have aided in the increased death toll in New York.

“The questions that we have to pertain to the decisions that were made to place individuals in nursing homes as opposed to utilizing the federal sites that had been set up, like the USNS Comfort ship, or the National Guard setting up extensions of hospitals,” said she and Malliotakis followed this up with: “Cuomo left with a lot of New Yorkers having legitimate questions about his role in the death of thousands.”

Some have even suggested that it is highly likely that criminal activity might have been involved in the decision-making that went into these choices.
