Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift may be the first celeb to feature a transgender male as her romantic interest in a music video, according to SavageTakes. Swift shared some of the video’s images on her Twitter account to promote the release to her fans. She tweeted, “The Lavender Haze video is out now. There is lots of lavender. There is lots of haze.” She also mentioned her “incredible costar,” whom she says she “absolutely adored working with.”. Swift’s costar is a biological woman who used medical interventions to appear as a man. Laith Ashley performs opposite Swift in the music video as her love interest. The video shows a bare-chested Ashley lying in bed cuddling with Swift. Once the video was released, Ashley thanked Swift for the opportunity and for “allowing me to play a small part in your story. You are brilliant, and this is an experience I will never forget. It was truly magical.” [tweet_embed]February 01, 2023[/tweet_embed] Ashley added, “Your storytelling abilities through your music and visuals continue to leave me in awe, inspired, and hopeful. Thank you for being an ally. Representation matters. AND LOVE WILL ALWAYS WIN!” Swift released the music video over the weekend. The 11-time Grammy Award winner wrote and directed it, saying she intended to show a “sultry sleepless 70’s fever dream.” It has already garnered close to 10 million views on YouTube and is the third video she’s released from her “Midnights” album. According to Fox News, Ashton Pittman, Mississippi Free Press editor, wrote, “Taylor Swift hired a trans man of color, Laith Ashley, to star alongside her as her love interest in her new music video for Lavender Haze. This comes at a time when powerful anti-trans forces worldwide are crusading against the very existence of trans people.” Stephanie Soteriou, Buzzfeed’s celebrity reporter, tweeted, “Taylor Swift has made a lot of political missteps in her career but casting a Dominican trans man as her love interest is commendable. Her country roots used to make her the poster girl for white, bigoted, republicans & you can’t underestimate the power of representation.” Holly Berry responded to the tweet, “Huh? She started as a country artist...who quickly figured that adopting extreme woke positions would make her very popular and rich. She has made ZERO political missteps. This is just another show of her playing to ‘woke’, so she is in the spotlight. Puh-leeze.” SavageTakes reported Swift is one of many celebrities who hype transgenderism, which seems to be causing more young people to doubt their identity or identify as non-binary. Research by the Trevor Project found that 26% of LGBTQ youth identify as non-binary.
