Hollywood has gone above and beyond to become more woke.

We see the wokeness in movies and television shows. It was prevalent in awards ceremonies. However, according to her words, this black director didn’t get an Oscar and blamed it on Hollywood upholding whiteness.

Those in charge announced the nominees for the 95th Academy Awards on Tuesday. However, the Oscar nominees didn’t include any nominations for the movie “Till.” The film is about Mamie Till-Bradley and her quest for justice after the murder of her 14-year-old son. The critically acclaimed film did not get a nomination in any category for any award.

According to the director, it’s because of misogyny. Fox News says, “Because of this, Chukwu said the Academy Awards are ‘upholding whiteness’ and ‘perpetuating’ misogyny against Black women.”

The director put the awards ceremony on blast with an Instagram post that said:

”We live in a world and work in industries [that are so] aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating unabashed misogyny towards Black women. And yet. I am forever in gratitude for the greatest lesson of my life. Regardless of any challenges or obstacles, I will always have the power to cultivate my joy, and it is this joy [will] continue to be one of my most [significant] forms of resistance.”

This accusation isn’t the first time someone has called the Oscars racist. In 2016, the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite brought massive attention to the lack of diversity in the awards ceremony. There are new qualifications for films to be nominated, including inclusion. This incentive seeks to encourage more diversity in the awards and Hollywood.

According to Fox News, production must submit a confidential Academy Inclusion Standards form to qualify for a nomination. The nominees must promote standards such as at least one lead actor or a significant supporting actor from a marginalized group and at least two creative leadership positions and department heads filled by an under-represented minority.

The new qualifications will go into effect for films nominated starting in 2024. However, until then, we can expect everyone that isn’t white that doesn’t receive a nomination to attribute it to the lack of diversity.
