Last week, an all-ages drag show was held in Roanoke, Texas that quickly turned into a heated culture war between armed Antifa members and conservative protesters. The event, which was hosted by drag queen Trisha Delish, was met with protests from both sides of the political aisle.

Local conservative activists rallied against the event, arguing that it was inappropriate for children to attend. One conservative protester said, "This is about protecting our children from being indoctrinated with a liberal agenda. We have to draw a line somewhere." Meanwhile, Antifa members showed up armed with assault-style rifles, claiming that they were there to protect the event from any possible violence.

The event and the protesters’ presence have sparked a larger debate about the role of Antifa in the culture war. Antifa, which stands for anti-fascist, is a decentralized, leaderless movement composed of loose collections of groups, networks, and individuals. They believe in active, aggressive opposition to conservative movements and have been increasingly visible in the United States since the 2016 presidential election.

For now, it is unclear how the Antifa movement will continue to shape the political landscape in the United States. But with tensions between the right and left continuing to rise, it is likely that Antifa will remain a visible presence in the culture war.

At the same time, Antifa has come under fire from conservative lawmakers who claim that the movement is a threat to public safety. In a statement, Texas State Senator Charles Perry said, “Antifa is an extremist movement that promotes violence and has been linked to numerous acts of vandalism and physical harm. We cannot allow this type of behavior in our communities and must take action to ensure that public safety is not compromised.”

The debate over the role of Antifa in the culture war is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. But the all-ages drag show in Roanoke has put a spotlight on the issue and highlighted the need for better security and police presence at controversial events.
