Illinois Democrats continue attempts to take away gun rights.

However, sheriffs are fighting back. They are refusing to implement new laws restricting people’s gun rights.

According to The Western Journal, “‘Governor J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 5471 on Tuesday. The new bill bans the purchase and use of ‘commonly-used firearms and firearm components in Illinois,’ Madison County Sheriff Jeff Connor and Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine said in a joint statement, The Telegraph reported.”

The Governor says that the goal of the bill is to promote safety. However, many feel the new law infringes on their Second Amendment rights. That’s why a few sheriffs are refusing to enforce it. The sheriffs of Whitehead, Knox, and Henry Counties are reportedly stating that they will not enforce the law within their jurisdictions.

They released a statement together explaining their decision. According to The Western Journal, “‘Part of my duty that I accepted upon being sworn into office was to protect the rights provided to all of us in the Constitution. One of those enumerated rights is the right of the people to keep and bear arms provided under the Second Amendment. I, among many others, believe that HB 5471 is a clear violation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,’ the sheriffs declared.”

They made it clear that they do not view this as a necessary safety measure for citizens. Instead, it’s government overreach and attacking our constitutional rights. According to The Western Journal, over twenty sheriffs have joined the movement refusing to enforce the law statewide.

As more time goes on, more law enforcement officials are taking measures to protect their constituents’ rights. The District Attorney isn’t happy with that, but people will continue fighting against the government overreach prevalent in the Democrat Party.
