Pop Star M.I.A. was scheduled to perform at Field Day, a well-known music festival.

However, after an interview with Candace Owens, the music festival canceled the artist for her comments.

She received a message from the music festival informing her that she was no longer welcome, even though it was a hard decision. According to The Post Millennial, “After discussing it with AEG,” the message to M.I.A. reads, “the consensus is that in light of the online activity, we cannot continue with the offer.”

Field Day tried to mitigate the cancellation by saying, “We have not taken the decision lightly, but we must consider the wide risks to the festival and its stakeholders.”

This instantly makes you wonder what comments she made. However, it’s not as offensive as you would think. She doesn’t even attack anyone. M.I.A. spoke with Candace Owens and discussed that she is from Sri Lanka and of the Tamil minority. M.I.A. talked about issues that some may find hard to learn about, like war crimes, human rights abuses, and the time that thousands of individuals from the same Tamil background were slaughtered on a beach.

However, that’s not what Hollywood wants her to talk about. They don’t want to hear about the brutal truth and don’t want her to speak about it. According to The Post Millennial, “‘They wanted me to be like, ‘I came from a mud heart like me now, you know, I’m driving a Bentley, and I’m so happy I’m liberated.’ And that that was the narrative Hollywood wanted me to say”,’ she told Owens.

‘But money didn’t mean sh*t, you know, when 150,000 people are getting bombed, and you can’t speak about it. And if you have to compromise that to achieve this status, it just wasn’t worth it, you know, on a larger scale, not just talking about myself and my experience, but on a larger scale, this level of censorship or gaslighting, I would say.’”

Most people would need to remember where they came from if it meant they could be a billionaire, but not M.I.A. She instantly started to receive backlash after Candace Owens mentioned an interview, but that didn’t stop her. Hollywood can’t censor everyone and everything.
