Schiff opposed allowing Sperry to speak his mind freely because of reporting on a so-called impeachment whistleblower. Schiff announced in September 2019 that he had reached an agreement with a whistleblower who allegedly filed a complaint about President Trump’s 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Schiff never produced the whistleblower’s name and later claimed that the whistleblower had a “right” to remain anonymous.
Schiff also made a lot of contradictory claims about how often his committee had supposedly never spoken with the so-called whistleblower. However, he admitted to the New York Post that his committee had spoken with the whistleblower.
Sperry later published an article with RealClearInvestigations that identified the whistleblower as a CIA analyst named Eric Ciaramella. This individual had worked in Trump’s White House before returning to the CIA. Sperry also established links between Ciaramella and the committee that Schiff ran in the House. Sperry continued to hit on this story repeatedly, which seemed to get under the skin of Schiff and many others.

This may be the exact reason why Schiff went to Twitter, seeking to get Sperry censored.

Schiff has tried to find cover for himself by using post-election controversies to help make up a reason for him to go after Sperry for his reporting. This attempt to shut down Sperry is a blatant violation of the First Amendment.

Reporter Taibbi stated that Twitter initially refused to support the request by Schiff to censor Sperry’s account. However, they later said that they would review the account of Sperry to make a further decision about what to do about the account. This is another example of Big Tech working with elected Democrats to do their bidding for them.
Interestingly, in August, Sperry’s account was banned without notice or explanation after the FBI raided Trump’s residence at Mar-A-Lago.
