They are upset by a tweet that Bayless fired off after the collapse of Damar Hamlin during Monday Night Football.
Bayless tweeted the following on Monday, shortly after the game was suspended:
“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

Later, Bayless felt he had to pull things back after receiving a lot of heat from people online. He said that he didn’t mean to minimize the situation that was going on with Hamlin in any way. He later tweeted the following in an apparent attempt to clean things up:

“Nothing is more important than that young man’s health. That was the point of my last tweet. I’m sorry if that was misunderstood, but his health is all that matters. Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him & will continue to.”

Bayless also addressed the controversy on his ESPN show, though he had to do so without the help of his typical co-host Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe decided it was not a good idea to appear on television with Bayless after this slip-up on his Twitter profile.

He said the following about his previous comments on Twitter:
“I apologize for what we’re going to set out to do here today if it offends anyone because we’re going to try to do the show pretty much as we usually do the show.”

Bayless also said that he was shaken up by his appearance on the show and wasn’t sure how he would proceed with getting through it, but he seemed to manage to do so regardless.
None of this seemed to matter to the Twitter mob. They began their expected calls for Bayless to be removed from his show and the network.

NFL Hall-of-Famer Terrell Owens said Bayless had posted the worst tweet in history. In an Instagram post, he stated the following:
“I would like to say I’m shocked by this tweet, BUT quite frankly, I’m not because of who I’ve known you to be!!”
