According to the Blaze, a Miami firefighter said he does not regret repeatedly punching a handcuffed patient.

It might make more sense when you understand the full context of why he did what he did.

The firefighter says that the patient spits at him, which led to his actions.

The video shows the patient, Antonio Cruz, spitting at the firefighter back in October. He was brought on a stretcher to Jackson Memorial Hospital after consuming cocaine and heroin.

Police reported that Cruz was screaming at law enforcement and others in the area. The video shows that Cruz was spitting at officers and others around him. The firefighter says he started swinging at the patient and does not regret his actions.

Robert Webster, a lieutenant with the department, was immediately relieved of his duty after the incident, but he didn’t necessarily regret it. The incident took place on October 15, according to WTVJ.

Webster told WTVJ that he didn’t regret the incident, and that is why he said the following:

“If he never knew the consequence of spitting in a grown man’s face, then consider my actions consequences and this video a [public service announcement].”

Webster says that he has brought up issues with the department in the past, including a situation when he found a noose hanging over family pictures that he had in the office. He says that he reported that in 2019 according to the Blaze.

Webster said the following, according to the station:

“I want justice. I want to love this job again.”

He did what he did based on the patient’s actions, and he feels that many others in the same situation he found himself would have done the same thing. The fact that they are going after him for this is something that he doesn’t feel is right or fair, given the totality of the circumstances.
