The Washington Free Beacon reports that Facebook has changed course on a controversial policy it put in place last year regarding posts about human trafficking.

The policy that was in place before allowed human traffickers to post about people they wanted to smuggle to other individuals.

Facebook released an update to its policies that made it clear that it will not permit any posts that promote any human trafficking content at all. Posts are not allowed to solicit the services of human traffickers either. Thus, the updated policy might make it considerably more challenging for those will ill intent in their hearts to use Facebook to do the human trafficking work that they previously did.

The Washington Free Beacon was one of the first to reveal the policies that Facebook had in place, to begin with, that allowed people to make posts related to human trafficking. At the time, Facebook made a fuss about the idea that its platform might be used by human traffickers or those looking to smuggle people anywhere in the world. At the time, Spokesman Drew Pusateri argued that the platform was not being used this way. Pusateri no longer has any connection to the company. Still, many were baffled by the fact that representatives of Facebook could believe that criminals weren't using the platform in this way.

Now, a memo from Facebook reads a lot different than the position that they took at the time:

"The United Nations defines human smuggling as the procurement or facilitation of illegal entry into a state across international borders and Without necessity for coercion or force, it may still result in the exploitation of vulnerable individuals who are trying to leave their country of origin, often in pursuit of a better life."

For whatever reason, leftists felt that it was necessary to allow Facebook to continue to allow posts about human trafficking to contribute to human rights. It truthfully made very little sense to many people not within the leftist bubbles that wanted to push for something like this.

A new Facebook spokeswoman Jeanne Moran said the following:

"We don't allow human exploitation on our platforms, including human smuggling or trafficking, and we remove such content when we find it.and We especially want to support those escaping conflict and oppression with information on how to seek asylum or legal migration while also protecting them from harm. We are constantly seeking community and expert feedback to improve our policies so we can promote safety and serve as a resource for the people who need it most."

These policies should have been the case already.
