According to a report by The Daily Wire, Arizona Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs, while serving as Secretary of State, had a direct hand in censoring social media posts on Twitter.

Documents submitted in the Missouri v. Biden case, the Center for Internet Security (CIS) was contacted by Hobbs’ office requesting a “review” of posts on Twitter. The reason given was that the state’s voter registration system was owned and operated system by foreigners.

A message from Hobbs’ office said, “This is an attempt to further undermine confidence in the election institution in Arizona.” Reportedly, Twitter responded to CIS within a half-hour of the request that Twitter would “escalate” the state’s issue regarding the posts.

Approximately seven hours later, CIS was notified by Twitter that the offending posts were deleted. The Daily Wire notes that the entire exchange between all parties happened on January 7, 2021, following the Capitol riots.

In two tweets while Hobbs was on the campaign trail, she alluded to eradicating speech deemed misinformation or disinformation.

On September 9, 2021, she said, “While some elected officials in our state continue to promote falsehoods about the last election, I’ll always fight the spread of misinformation and never back down from telling the truth. We can’t let the conspiracy theorists win. We need a change in leadership in Arizona.”

On September 13, 2021, she said, “I’ve fought against misinformation and even death threats. Now I’m running for Governor, and one of my opponents is talking to Steve Bannon about decertifying the 2020 results.”

Over the weekend, after news of Hobbs’ intervention went viral, her team went to work interacting with mainstream media outlets to defend the action taken by the Secretary of State’s office.

The incoming chief of staff, Allie Bones, shared with a variety of outlets an explanation stating it was the secretary of state's job to remove information that was deemed not truthful. She also insisted there was nothing out of line for the government’s use of CIS.

Bones stated, “One of the ways we [make sure that voters are informed] is by working to counter disinformation online that can confuse voters.”

The Western Journal reports former Trump attorney, Christina Bobb, tweeted, “Unreal! Katie Hobb’s office contacts Twitter to have posts removed! So, the Democratic candidate, who ran the AZ election, censored her political opponents, disrupted Election Day votes, and then threatened counties with prosecution if they didn’t declare her the winner.”

A federal investigation into Hobbs has intensified.
