Black Friday turns out to be the highest day of gun sales almost every year, and this year's Black Friday sales were only broken by Black Friday sales records in 2017 and 2019.
Between those three days alone, the number of background checks performed was nearly 600,000.

"The NICS checks are unadjusted, representing raw data from the FBI and are inclusive of all background checks related to firearms."
The numbers are impressive and have been very high since 2016.
Not only was this Black Friday the 3rd highest day of sales, but the entire year is believed to be on track to be the 3rd highest year of sales in total.

The main times of the year that gun sales tend to escalate are around the Christmas holiday and near hunting season. Those are when people typically think about purchasing more guns and even giving them as gifts.
The massive increase in sales might also have something to do with President Biden suggesting that he ban certain types of firearms entirely.

The President has his eyes on semi-automatic pistols and modern sporting rifles. He stated that following a mass shooting in Colorado, he would like to ban those types of weapons and even stated that it is "disgusting" that these types of weapons are permitted for sale.

These are among some of the most popular types of guns purchased by gun owners year after year. Thus, some gun owners might be concerned that their favorite guns are on the chopping block. That might be driving some of the increase in sales numbers.

The Washington Examiner reports that some of the spikes in sales are directly linked to more women and minorities purchasing guns as they fear for their safety. This all comes as many areas of the country see some of their highest violent and property crime rates in many decades.
