There wasn't much suspense in the vote count for Governor Ron DeSantis in Florida.

Polls showed that DeSantis was likely to win re-election there, but most expected there would be a little more suspense than there was. Instead, the race could be officially called shortly after all the polls had closed.

Ron DeSantis was first elected in 2018 very narrowly over Democrat Andrew Gillium. However, his re-election on Tuesday came much easier for him. He was up against Democrat Charlie Crist, who has run and lost as a Republican, Independent, and now a Democrat. Crist is seen by many in Florida as an opportunist who will switch political parties and viewpoints when it serves him the most.

Many viewed the results of the DeSantis race as an excellent reason for him to look at this as a springboard for a potential 2024 run for President. He is viewed by many as a potential frontrunner and challenger to Donald Trump. The big win in Florida makes a strong case for him to do that. The underperformance of Trump-endorsed candidates in many races throughout the country makes a case for DeSantis to go forward with a 2024 run even more substantial.

DeSantis established himself as a leader during the COVID-19 pandemic. Florida was one of the first states to get children back into schools, and many say that he showed incredible leadership in getting the results necessary to help boost Florida to the place it is today.

The record of leadership DeSantis is something that helps put him at a great advantage to potentially make a strong case for why he should be the Republican candidate for President in 2024. He will have to convince some in the party that they shouldn't go with Trump again, but his case is bolstered by the fact that he performed so well on a night when Republicans did not do well.
