The media coverage of Republicans is very biased against them, according to a new report.

Media Research Center did a study of 115 election stories shown on ABC, CBS, and NBC to see what percentage of those stories were negative towards GOP candidates. In this study, Media Research Center found that 87% of the stories about GOP candidates had a negative spin.

Four years ago, the numbers were very similar with Trump in the White House. At that time, 88% of the stories about GOP candidates had a negative bias. Thus, Republican candidates are virtually always fighting an uphill battle to free themselves from the narrative that they are terrible candidates and people. The media wants to show them only in the light they believe is correct, and many good-hearted candidates get thrown under the bus because of it.

Democrats do not get the same kind of criticism in media reports when they are out of power, according to this same research. It seems that the media likes to play for the Blue Team in politics, and they can’t be knocked off of that message no matter what. Isn’t that something that ought to be concerning to us all?

Another trick the media likes to pull is to get specific topics into their stories repeatedly. Namely, they like to pivot to the issues that Democrats want to discuss most. This cycle, the big problem that Democrats want to talk about is abortion rights. After the Dobbs decision in the Supreme Court that gave states the right to set their abortion laws, it was all that Democrats chose to verbalize. The media is helping them with their messaging by covering abortion-related stories.

The media can cover what it pleases, but it does a significant disservice to the country by focusing specifically on issues that Democrats care about while missing the fact that other big stories are developing around us. For example, crime is currently sky-high, but the media hardly covers that story.

We live in extraordinary times, but things are only made worse by the items that our media chooses to focus on or not. If other vital items get ignored in the conversation, then we face a massive set of problems. Right now, that is what is happening.
