Small business owners in the United States are rebelling against expanding the IRS.

When surveyed, 7 out of 10 small business owners say they oppose any expansion of the IRS at this time.

The Inflation Reduction Act, a law signed by President Biden, allocated $80 billion for officials working in the IRS. It also authorized hiring up to 87,000 new IRS agents to begin working in the agency. Both of these moves were wildly unpopular with the American people, but they were approved as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

The Job Creators Network Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting economic freedom, commissioned a poll of approximately 500 small business owners about their feelings regarding the possible expansion of the IRS. In this poll, they discovered that 70% of those surveyed say they oppose any expansion of the tax collecting agency.

Job Creators Network Foundation President Elaine Parker spoke about the poll results and stated that no one likes to get audited and that those who can’t afford to fight the audits are particularly opposed to an expansion of the IRS. This all makes sense, and it makes it clear that the moves made by the Biden Administration to up the amount of funding provided to the IRS for its work are likely not going to go over well with many people.

The Biden Administration continues to insist that the expansion of the IRS will not be used to target small business owners and middle-income individuals. Secretary Yellen insists that new funding will NOT be used to target those making less than $400,000 annually.

However, many remain skeptical that all of this new money and these new agents aren’t going to be used in some way to go after those who can least afford to handle even more observation from the IRS.
