The Country music star Loretta Lynn has died at age 90, according to a statement from her family.

The family released an emotional statement saying their loved one had passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022. Specifically, it was Lynn’s children who released the statement. They asked for privacy while they focused on the grieving process at this time.

Loretta Lynn’s career spanned over six decades, winning nearly every type of music award a musician can. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988.

The singer said that while she understood that many believed her songs to be ahead of their time, she always felt like she was merely singing about the realities many rural women in the country face. She said she never felt like she was doing something revolutionary, even though others may have put it that way.

She told the Associated Press in 1995 that she could see other women living the same difficult life that she had to. She performed in clubs where she saw many women going through the same struggles that she went through as well. Thus, she felt that she had a special connection with them and that they could truly understand what she was going through.

She wasn’t afraid to take on even the most challenging topics, even when rock n’ roll artists wouldn’t quite do the same. Lynn wrote about cheating husbands, divorce, birth control, sex and love, and so much more. She even got herself in hot water with some radio producers for some of the subject matter she opted to sing about in her songs.

Lynn’s biggest hit songs come around in the 1960s and 1970s. Those songs included: “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “The Pill,” “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),.” Each song struck a chord with a broad audience, giving voice to women throughout the country who felt like they had been pushed around or ignored by the men in their life.

Tim Cobb was her assistant and often created elaborate dresses and other outfits that Lynn would wear when she got on stage. These outfits were yet another thing that she became famous for, and Cobb could claim at least some of the credit for himself as well, given what he did to create those looks.

Many will miss Lynn, particularly the people from Appalachia where she grew up. The way that she spoke about the struggle that people in that area often go through is something you don’t often see.
