Chicago's history of violent crime is well-known and documented. In August 2021, 475 people were shot in the city, and while the Chicago Sun-Times reports that this year's shootings saw a 19.5% decrease with 384 people shot in August, the incidence of violence is still staggering.

One family saw the negative impact a shooting can have on Tuesday, September 13. While at a grandmother’s birthday party, shots rang out in the city’s Lower West Side. At first, partygoers thought they heard firecrackers, but it turns out it was much more sinister. As the shots were fired, some of the cousins at the party had gone to the backyard to look at a relative's new car.

A man, who declined to be identified, saw a look on his cousin’s face and knew something was amiss. The man, a 21-year-old man with a license to carry a concealed pistol, says he looked down the alley and saw two gunmen at the end actively engaged in an altercation.

This young man had his weapon with him and started shooting at the gunmen, which caused the gunmen to flee the area, but the damage was already done. Two of the bullets that the gunmen fired struck the young man’s 13-year-old cousin.

The teen boy was shot twice in the head but still breathing. He was transported to Stroger Hospital. While he’s in critical condition, his brother says that the teen opened his eyes and moved some.

The leftists who run the city, including radical Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, fail to address the rampant crime and have even tried to ban guns in Chicago. This grandmother’s birthday party is a prime example of how someone exercising their Second Amendment rights, as America's Founding Fathers intended, can help to save lives.

The end of this story could have been very different, but the conservatives in Chicago and across the country continue to ensure that fundamental, Constitutional rights don’t fall by the wayside in the wake of the destructive liberal agenda.
