Facebook, now Meta, spied on conservatives who questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election. The social media giant then sent reports to the FBI.

On its own volition and without a subpoena, Facebook employees red-flagged conservatives who posted what the social media company deemed anti-government messages. As per the New York Post, the company then turned the information over to the FBI.

A Facebook employee, as part of a more extensive FBI collaboration operation, “red-flagged” private messages and then transmitted redacted versions of the messages to the domestic terrorism operational unit at the Washington DC FBI Headquarters.

Facebook did it “outside the legal process and without probable cause,” said one anonymous source claiming, “Facebook provided the FBI with private conversations,” which the First Amendment protects without a subpoena.

All of the users flagged as potential terrorists are “conservative right-wing individuals,” according to another source which continued, “They were gun-toting, red-blooded Americans [who were] angry after the election and shooting off their mouths and talking about staging protests. There was nothing criminal and nothing about violence or massacring or assassinating anyone.”

Erica Sackin, a spokesperson for Communications, Dangerous Organizations, and individuals at Facebook, now called Meta, denied it all. Sackin said:

“These claims are false.” She continued, “because they reflect a misunderstanding of how our systems protect people from harm and how we engage with law enforcement. We carefully scrutinize all government requests for user information to ‘make sure they’re legally valid and narrowly tailored, and we often push back. We respond to legal requests for information ‘in accordance with applicable law and our terms, and we provide notice to users whenever permitted.”

However, Sackin, who is also a DC-based crisis response expert who previously worked for Planned Parenthood and “Obama for America,” later updated her statement to change the word “false” to “wrong.” The updated statement continues, “The suggestion we seek out peoples’ private messages for anti-government language or questions about the validity of past elections and then proactively supply those to the FBI is ‘plainly’ inaccurate, and there is zero evidence to support it.”
