The Emmys were quite the spectacle to behold this year. The dresses, the antics, and the genuinely heartfelt moments, like Sheryl Lee Ralph’s heartfelt rendition of a Nina Simone song, topped the night for many.

One moment that viewers are unsure how to feel about is Jimmy Kimmel’s portrayal of a dead body during the acceptance speech of “Abbott Elementary” creator, writer, and star, Quinta Brunson’s acceptance speech for best comedy writing.

Maybe the skit was supposed to come across as something different, with actor Will Arnett dragging Kimmel to the stage and leaving him there, Quinta was forced to make her acceptance speech while awkwardly hovering over the late-night host.

The two know each other well, with Quinta getting her big late-night break on Jimmy Kimmel's show. She stated,

“I was happy it was Jimmy,” she continued. “He’s one of the comedy godfathers. … Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him.”

Many are pointing to this as an incident surrounding the perceived white male privilege that seems to run rampant in Hollywood, even after the surging "Me Too" movement that served to quash some of these feelings of entitlement.

Jimmy Kimmel managed to lie on the ground silently throughout the entirety of Brunson's acceptance speech even as she prodded him with a "Jimmy, I won!"

People are calling on Kimmel for an apology or even just an acknowledgment of the situation and the perceived slight to the woman of color accepting an award.

Feelings swirling about on the internet following the ceremony let it be known that there were plenty of people who thought it was a rude and distasteful stunt, drawing attention from a woman who had worked exceedingly hard to get her creative talent understood and recognized.

Whether or not it was meant to distract, the Emmys were certainly holding our attention this year with their unpredictability and star power.
