Mike Pompeo has cautioned the US is vulnerable to a 9/11-style attack after the humiliating departure from Afghanistan.

The former secretary of state, 58, made his comments throughout an appearance on the Cats Roundtable radio program on Sunday morning.

The one-time CIA director told host John Catsimatidis: "We are more likely to be attacked like New York City was 20 some years ago, we're more likely to be attacked from [Afghanistan] today than we were just one year ago."

Pompeo continued to say that the United States was humiliated by President Joe Biden's bungled exit from Afghanistan.

He further proposed that the Taliban's rise in the nation after the US departure has emboldened Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Pompeo was referencing the deaths of 13 US service members as the result of an ISIS linked suicide bombing at Kabul airport in August 2021.

Speaking regarding the recent student debt relief efforts by the Biden administration, Pompeo announced that the Democrats were "virtue signaling to a bunch of folks." He described it as a "pretty plain attempt to get votes" ahead of the 2020 midterm elections.

Pompeo further railed the against the notion that the US military was becoming "woke" and promoted the idea that the FBI remain an independent law enforcement organization that was not beholden to the president.

He announced: "If you have a woke military and corrupted institutions you being to undermine the things that matter most to everybody from New York to California. It begins to undermine our way of life and puts at risk our most exceptional nation."

"If I come to believe I ought to become president, that I have something to offer the American people, I will run no matter who all decides to get in and who else decides not to get in the race," he stated.

His remarks come after a new Politico / Morning Consult survey had Pompeo, who served in as Trump's top diplomat, at zero percent, in a field dominated by Trump, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence trailing.

After a well-worn political path, Pompeo announced his trips around the nation were on behalf of Republican candidates, not his own potential return to politics.
