New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez missed the Aug. 13 deadline to submit her 2021 financial disclosures to the House Ethics Committee, something members are typically penalized for.

Ocasio-Cortez, a loud & disruptive member of the House who is an avowed 'socialist' that lives in a luxury apartment building and drives a $70,000 Tesla, is not worried as the Democrat-led house needs her Progressive Caucus' support.

Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic nomination in a Tuesday primary as she ran unopposed, suggesting that Democratic voters did not get the opportunity to scrutinize her disclosures throughout the primary process.

The documents are supposed to be filed with the Clerk of the House as outlined in Title I of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

"Financial Disclosure Reports include information about the source, type, amount, or value of the incomes of Members, officers, certain employees of the U.S. House of Representatives and related offices, and candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives," according to the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

If Ocasio-Cortez fails to produce the financial reports by the end of the grace period, the fine is a mere $200.

"[T]he Committee provides a 30-day grace period before fines are levied. The Congresswoman plans to file before the period expires," a spokesperson explained to the Washington Examiner. However, others have said paying the fine is probably the way she will go. Many speculate that AOC is not planning to be open about her income and expenses this close to an election. AOC had a recent scare when her primary went tougher than she thought it would.

Ocasio-Cortez acknowledged in a recent interview that the perception that she is out of touch with her constituents is "always a concern."

"It's always a concern that that's a perception," the New York Democrat explained to the Associated Press while discussing the possibility that her celebrity status could come across to voters as being out of touch with their concerns.

"I've never had any control over the fact that that kind of phenomenon started the moment I was elected," she continued. "If anything, that's why I need to continue to be here in the community."

Multiple posts spreading on Facebook claim Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has a net worth of $29 million.

"How in the hell is AOC worth $29 million," reads an Aug. 4 Facebook post shared more than 400 times. "She was just bar tending (sic) the other day!"

A different Aug. 4 Facebook post mentions Ocasio-Cortez's student loan debt, a topic she has talked about many times.

"AOC net worth is $29 million, on a government salary that paid $174k yearly," reads the post, which was shared more than 170 times. "You better believe she can pay off her own damn student loan."

Yet the claim is false. Ocasio-Cortez's most recent financial disclosure, filed in 2021, shows her assets between $3,003 and $45,000, including a 401(k) plan, and student loan debt between $15,001 and $50,000.
