Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, said this week that his state would employ any "dissatisfied" FBI agents in law enforcement after condemning the recent raid on former President Donald Trump's estate.

"If you're an FBI officer looking for a different opportunity in law enforcement, Texas needs a lot of it. And we got a lot of investigations," Abbott said in a radio interview with Chris Salcedo on Wednesday.

"If there's anybody in the FBI who is dissatisfied with their working condition with their leadership ... and it may not just be FBI, there are so many people working under the Biden administration that see how this administration is completely going off the rails," he added. Abbott made the remarks promptly after he outlined the FBI's recent raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate "political persecution."

The governor also recently pledged to hire any border patrol agents who were accused of "whipping" migrants if they are "punished" by the federal government.

"I came out multiple times and said that if those border patrol officers are punished in any way, the state of Texas will be proud to step up and hire them and add them to our forces that we have on the border to secure our border," Abbott told Salcedo on Wednesday. "And the same principle applies here."

Before winning the Republican primary overwhelmingly, Abbott received Trump’s endorsement for reelection as Texas governor.

Characterizing the raid as “corrupt,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) expressed similar thoughts on the FBI’s search of the former president’s home.

“What Nixon tried to do, Biden has now implemented: The Biden Admin has fully weaponized DOJ & FBI to target their political enemies,” Cruz wrote on Twitter. “And with 87K new IRS agents, they’re coming for YOU too.”

Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock), who leads the special Texas House committee investigating the Uvalde shooting, wrote on social media that the raid “appears politically motivated.”

“We cannot allow the DOJ & FBI to be used like the KGB — we must always distinguish ourselves,” Burrows tweeted.

The offices of Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.

Patrick tweeted on Wednesday morning, “If Democrats will weaponize DOJ, FBI, IRS against a former President, they will think nothing of weaponizing them against the American people. That means you! Biden’s wrecking of the economy is nothing compared to the pain of 87,000 new IRS auditors in their new spending bill.”
