Despite Democrats and Republicans warning him against doing so, President Joe Biden’s Administration is considering eliminating Trump-era tariffs on Chinese goods that Biden thinks will fight the record-high inflation in the U.S. Could this be just a move to placate China who has dirt on Hunter Biden?

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo confirmed the move on Sunday, stating that Biden has personally requested her team to investigate the matter. Inflation in the U.S. hit a 40-year high in March and is expected to escalate in the following months although the tariffs have nothing to do with inflation, and instead are one of the only things keeping many U.S. companies in a business as it forces cheap China-made products to be competitively priced with goods that are Made In The USA.

Some of the tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump affect household goods that could be bought more cheaply from China. Raimondo previously endorsed some of Trump’s tariffs on China as “very effective.” Yet, Senators Mitt Romney & Elizabeth Warren among other Trump haters have warned Biden against lifting the tariffs, saying it will not lower inflation and only strengthen China at a time when China is siding with Russia and looking to make a major change in Taiwan's status as well as inching in on the strategic Pacific Island shipping lanes.

“We are looking at it. In fact, the President has asked us on his team to analyze that. And so we are in the process of doing that for him and he will have to make that decision,” Raimondo explained to CNN in an interview when questioned regarding the matter. Yet, CNN never challenged Raimondo on the negatives or even brought up the Hunter Biden question as it appears this move will only help China and help push American businesses to the back of line once again.

“I know the President is looking at that,” Raimondo said. “Anyone who brings him a good idea that he thinks will help American families, he’s open to doing it.” Yet, most experts agree this is the farhtest thing from a good idea and again, it will not impact inflation.

The move comes as the Biden White House is searching for inflation remedies. Biden issued a 3-point plan to fight inflation last week, yet even members of his party denounced it as lackluster and ineffective.

“I support the President’s efforts, but we need a bolder vision and faster action,” Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif, wrote Thursday. “To meet the moment, Mr. Biden should convene an emergency task force empowered to lower prices and address shortages. We need an all-out mobilization, not just a few ad hoc initiatives reacting to headlines.”

Biden’s strategy essentially calls on the Federal Reserve and Congress to handle inflation. There is little executive action on Biden’s part.

The Biden administration repeatedly declared last year that inflation would be “transitory.” Last week, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen revealed that her prediction had been “wrong.”

“I think I was wrong then about the path that inflation would take,” she explained to CNN back then. “As I mentioned there have been unanticipated and large shocks to the economy that have boosted energy and food prices and um, supply bottlenecks that have affected our economy badly, that I didn’t, at the time, understand.”

Last year, Raimondo announced that Trump’s 25% duty on steel imports and 10% on inward-bound aluminum shipments have been effective. Steel producers want the duties preserved, yet manufacturers have called on Biden to end them, stating they have hurt family-owned businesses and fractured relationships with trading partners from Mexico and Canada to the EU and Japan.
