The federal judge supervising the civil rights cases of four former Minneapolis police officers in the killing of George Floyd has accepted a plea deal for Derek Chauvin, according to CNN.

The deal, which was filed several months ago, declares that while the judge will sentence Chauvin to between 20 to 25 years in jail, he will probably serve between 17 and just over 21, "assuming all good-time credit."

Chauvin was convicted of murder in state court last year for the killing of Floyd in 2020 and sentenced to 22½ years, which he is now serving.

He has filed an appeal with the Minnesota Court of Appeals seeking to reverse his conviction. He previously pleaded guilty at the end of last year to breaking Floyd's civil rights.

The three other former officers who have been convicted of federal civil rights charges, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng, have not received sentencing dates since presentence investigations for all three of them remain ongoing. They have further been charged with assisting and abetting in Floyd's death and will go on trial for those charges in state court next month.

The three former officers previously rejected plea agreements on the state charges last month.

U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson also has not set sentencing dates for three other ex-officers who were convicted of linked federal civil rights charges in February. The presentence investigations for Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng are still underway. They're set to go on trial next month in state court on charges of helping and abetting Chauvin in Floyd's murder.

Prosecutors announced at a pretrial hearing last month that the three had rejected plea agreements on the state charges. Terms were not revealed. Lane's attorney, Earl Gray, announced it was hard for the defense to negotiate when the three still didn't know what their federal sentences would be.

On Wednesday, Gray renewed his motions for a change of venue, and for delaying the trial until after the federal sentencing, or even until next year. He announced that it's "abundantly clear" from questionnaires returned by prospective jurors that a fair and impartial jury for the trial can never be seated in Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis, because of the "public hatred" of the defendants.

"It is clear that the vast majority of the Hennepin County community has a deep and bitter prejudice against police officer defendants and this case," Gray stated.
