Musk, the world’s richest man and a cryptocurrency advocate, posted the meme on Twitter early Thursday, reacting to reports that Mounties seek to freeze crypto wallets tied to the demonstrations.
The image shows the Nazi dictator Hitler with the text: “Stop comparing me to Justin Trudeau... I had a budget.” The reference to a “budget" is unclear and presents that the meme is recycled from prior controversies regarding Canada’s government spending.
Musk was reacting to a report from CoinDesk indicating that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have ordered Canadian exchanges to cease facilitating any transactions from 34 crypto wallets linked to the demonstrations. The Tesla CEO has been critical of COVID limitations, including vaccine mandates. He confirmed that he and his children had been vaccinated in December, stating “the science is unequivocal,” though he disapproves of vaccine mandates.

“You are taking a risk, but people do risky things all the time,” speaking of the unvaccinated though he still thinks that being vaccinated should be a personal choice.
“I believe we’ve got to watch out for the erosion of freedom in America,” he announced.

Musk moved to Texas in 2021 from California over the state’s strict COVID mandates. Musk has claimed with government officials over mandates and broken regulations to keep his plants open throughout the pandemic.
Musk is known for edgy humor and blunt assessments. Yet, his comparison of Trudeau with the Nazi leader, who was responsible for the genocide of millions of Jews and the beginning of World War Two, went too far for many Twitter users.

The American Jewish Committee responded to Musk’s tweet with a call for an immediate apology. Though his tweet also had over 35,000 likes, more than 9,000 retweets, and many positive responses, including one from @maroongolf17 saying, "my next car has to be a #tesla now.” Trudeau faced his own controversy related to Nazi comparisons.

On Wednesday, Trudeau was reprimanded in Parliament when he blamed a Conservative Party MP, Melissa Lantsman, who is Jewish, of “standing with people who wave swastikas” after she denounced his handling of the Freedom Convoy protests.

This is the second time Trudeau has insisted protesters are waving swastikas, and he smeared them as being “swastika-wavers" in the first week of protests. A flag incorporating the Nazi symbol was spotted in the initial days of the protests, though a DailyMail.com reporter has not seen any at the protest in Ottawa.
