Inflation has increased by almost 7% since December 2020, and goods from nearly every industry have seen soars in prices, the Department of Labor said Wednesday, but CNN seems to favor coverage of the Capitol attack over America's economic woes.
According to a Thursday study published by media watchdog NewsBusters, the economy has been overshadowed by a factor of almost 3 to 1 by coverage of the House Jan. 6 committee.
The committee's demand for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's testimony was the top priority for CNN on Wednesday, according to the study.

CNN covered the request for 97 minutes between 3:00 p.m. and midnight, the study said.

The latest numbers on inflation got 35 minutes and 34 seconds of airtime, and most of it came in the first 11 minutes of The Lead with Jake Tapper.
"The McCarthy request came during 'CNN Newsroom with Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell,' but in the six shows that aired afterward, four chose to lead with the McCarthy request instead of something that directly affects all Americans, but especially the poor and isolated," the study said.

The study also stressed the "hype" coverage on CNN.
News on the committee is "no doubt a significant development in the investigation into the January 6th insurrection," and McCarthy is "a central player in all of this," one correspondent said.

Speaking with Taper, Carl Bernstein marked McCarthy's actions part of "a cover-up by the leadership of the Republican Party of a conspiracy to undermine the democratic system."
"And now that coup and the cover-up of it has been embraced by Leader McCarthy, by Leader McConnell. It is something unlike anything we've seen in this country before," Bernstein said.

"And it is not only a disgrace, but if you look at this letter, I read it now, it's fascinating. They have the goods. This investigation has the goods. They know what McCarthy said to a large extent to Donald Trump on January 6th and McCarthy has lied about it since. So, we have a real conspiracy, a real cover up, real stonewalling in excess of anything we saw in Watergate," he continued.

Meanwhile, on the first anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot, MSNBC aired 838 minutes and 33 seconds of related coverage, according to a separate NewsBusters study.
The "major broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC spent almost 90 minutes on their two-hour morning newscasts [discussing Jan. 6] and just over 38 minutes on their 30-minute evening newscasts," the study said.
