The Democratic politician's office released a statement noting she is experiencing symptoms and quarantining at home.
“Representative Ocasio-Cortez has received a positive test result for COVID-19,” the statement said. “She is experiencing symptoms and recovering at home. The Congresswoman received her booster shot this Fall, and encourages everyone to get their booster and follow all CDC guidance.”
Ocasio-Cortez was spotted in Florida enjoying a cocktail at Doraku Sushi maskless while on vacation in Miami Beach on December 30. Ocasio-Cortez came to Florida while her home state of New York accounted for an estimated 45% of all new positive COVID-19 cases in the United States that week.

The photos drew snarky responses from social media, with some users promoting Florida and its Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis.
"AOC is vacationing in Miami Beach while New York City burns," tweeted ACT For America founder Brigitte Gabriel. "Isn’t Ron DeSantis awesome?"

"Welcome to Florida, AOC!" tweeted the Team DeSantis Twitter account. "We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership."
Though New York initially began to ease some of its Coronavirus restrictions, many protocols were reimposed due to the prevalence of the Omicron variant. The state implemented an indoor mask mandate for businesses that do not require proof of vaccination earlier this month. New York City requires proof of vaccination and masks to enter businesses such as gyms and restaurants.

Ocasio-Cortez's office has not responded to requests for comment.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the United States shattered its COVID-19 daily case record, reporting over 1,082,549 cases this past week.
The representative is the latest member of Congress to test positive for COVID-19. Reps. Jim Cooper, Sean Casten, and Young Kim also tested positive this weekend.

Last month, both Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker said separately that they tested positive for COVID-19 amid a rapidly spreading pandemic wave.
Both senators said they are vaccinated and have had booster shots. Although contracting the Coronavirus while fully vaccinated is known as a breakthrough case, both attributed their mellow experiences so far with the deadly disease to their top-level inoculation.
"I regularly test for COVID & while I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive with a breakthrough case," Warren, D-Mass., said on Twitter. She said she is feeling only mild symptoms and is "grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted."
