If the Democrats had any chance of salvaging the 2022 midterm elections, Kamala Harris just destroyed it, and did so on PBS during a softball-type interview where the questions seemed scripted to help prop up the fledgling Administration.

In an interview this week, Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged a “level of malaise” among Americans — and channeled one of the lowest moments of Jimmy Carter’s presidency.

“I fully appreciate that there is a level of malaise,” Harris announced Thursday throughout an appearance on “PBS Newshour,” in answer to a question regarding why President Joe Biden’s social spending agenda has stalled.

Harris sought to link Americans’ fatigue with the continuous COVID crisis to Biden’s falling poll numbers amid growing inflation and high energy costs.

“We’re two years into this thing, you know,” Harris told anchor Judy Woodruff. “People – we want to get back to normal, we all do.”

Critics quickly seized on the remark, which harked back to Carter’s so-called “malaise speech” of July 1979 — a disastrous speech that blamed Americans for the economic woes that had sparked general anger against his Administration.

“Jimmy Carter 2.0,” Fox News commentator Michael Tammero stressed on Twitter.

Carter’s speech, which presaged his electoral trouncing by Ronald Reagan one year later, has made the term “malכaise” a taboo word among American politicians.

Harris’s comment aired only hours after she ignited outrage for a speech at the U.S. Capitol equating the Jan. 6 riot there to some of the most difficult and deadly days in American history, including the September 11 terror attacks and the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Vincent Evans, Harris’ deputy director of public engagement and intergovernmental affairs, has taken a leading job at the Congressional Black Caucus, he announced in a statement provided to CNBC.

The CBC is led by Black lawmakers who advocate for matters important to minority communities across the nation. The group is chaired by Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio.

“I am deeply honored to be named the executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Evans announced in the statement. “I started my career in Washington working for a member of the CBC, so I know firsthand the tremendous leadership and impact this caucus has in Congress and across the country.”

Evans was a political director for Harris throughout the transition and held the same post while she was a nominee for vice president throughout the later stages of the run-up to the 2020 election, according to his LinkedIn profile.

A person familiar with Evans’ departure says he is leaving on great terms with the Vice President, and that he intends to maintain his close relationship with her. The move, this person continued, has nothing to do with the other recent departures. Harris, according to this person, supports Evans’ decision. The person refused to be named in order to speak freely regarding the job change.
