With the onset of Omicron plowing its way through the United States, Democrat Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts is the latest lawmaker to test positive.

Per the announcement from Pressley's office: "After experiencing COVID-like symptoms, this morning I received a positive, breakthrough COVID-19 test result. Thankfully, my symptoms are relatively mild, and I am grateful to be fully vaccinated and boosted. I am currently isolating and following all health protocols in order to mitigate the further spread and keep my loved ones and community safe."

The Democrat congresswoman then went on to express how great the COVID-19 vaccines are and how "grateful" she is for science. But now people need to get fully "boosted" and "mask up" in the current pandemic societal environment.

Massachusetts on Thursday recorded a new single-day record of more than 21,000 COVID cases.

According to CNN's tally, Pressley is the latest of various politicians to test positive, including Senators Cory Booker, Chris Coons, Elizabeth Warren, and Reps. Jason Crow, Nicole Malliotakis, Bill Pascrell, and Bobby Rush.

When Sen. Elizabeth Warren tested positive for coronavirus, the Massachusetts senator tweeted the news.

“Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms & am grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted,” she wrote.

Warren also said she is tested regularly for COVID-19 and had tested negative earlier this week.

Warren was on the Senate floor last week before the chamber went on recess, but CNN could not confirm that Booker was.

Crow tweeted that he "just returned from an official congressional delegation visit to Ukraine and tested positive for a breakthrough COVID infection."

The announcements came as the emergence of the Omicron variant has thrust the nation -- and the White House -- back into an uncertain pandemic reality, posing both public health and political challenges.

The last time a major event took place with COVID-19 and lawmakers this year was the Texas Democrats protesting an election regulations bill.

For a while, there were apprehensions from the White House standpoint that President Joe Biden himself would've been swept up in this wave of COVID-19 infections. While an aide ended up testing positive, that didn't amount to infecting the president.

The question surrounding the effectiveness against COVID-19's Omicron variant with the usual rounds of vaccines seemingly amounts to account for whether or not someone has had their booster shot. The definition of being "fully vaccinated" per the standards of the CDC is expected to change in 2022 to include this.
