The British newspaper took down their online poll after seeing that JK Rowling was in the lead.

On December 15, The Guardian posted a piece about Time Magazine's decision to grant Elon Musk the title of "person of the year." At the end of the article was a poll, asking readers "Who would be your 2021 person of the year, and why?"

Responses surged in and world-renowned author JK Rowling soared into the top spot. Soon after, the poll was nixed. Rowling, still best known as the mind behind the Harry Potter series, has recently made a name for herself by standing up for women's rights and being criticized as "transphobic" for doing so.

Rowling has stood up for the rights of biological women, denouncing policies that seek to label female-identifying but biologically male rapists as women, and seeing that respect for trans-identities does not trump real risks women face if men are allowed into traditionally feminine spaces.

Her opinion on the issue has prompted many to come out and tag her as "transphobic," however she has disregarded any claims that she holds resentment for the transgender community.

Rowling's steadfast belief in women's rights has caused quite the turmoil and attempts to cancel her have been growing. In November, for instance, Rowling was doxxed by trans-activists, and in December, major Quidditch organizations announced they aspired to distance themselves from the author, even though without her, their sport would not exist.

The Guardian has not yet told readers why the "person of the year" poll was deactivated.

Last year, Rowling explained her comments, writing: "I've been in the public eye now for over 20 years and have never talked publicly about being a domestic abuse and sexual assault survivor.

"This isn't because I'm ashamed that those things happened to me, but because they're traumatic to revisit and remember.

"I also feel protective of my daughter from my first marriage. I didn't want to claim sole ownership of a story that belongs to her, too.

"However, a short while ago, I asked her how she'd feel if I were publicly honest about that part of my life and she encouraged me to go ahead.

"I'm mentioning these things now not in an attempt to garner sympathy, but out of solidarity with the huge numbers of women who have histories like mine, who've been slurred as bigots for having concerns around single-sex spaces."

"If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth," she wrote on Twitter on Jun 7th, 2020.
