The controversial Republican made her disdain for the celebration evident after the College Republicans, an organization representative of Republicans on college and university campuses, wished its Twitter followers a happy Kwanzaa.
"Wishing you a happy and prosperous Kwanza!" the group posted.
Greene called out the post as "pandering."
"Stop," she demanded in a responding tweet. "It's a fake religion created by a psychopath. You aren't bringing in new voters, you are turning them away. People are tired of pandering and BS."

Kwanzaa is not a religion but rather an annual celebration of African American culture, first celebrated in 1966.
It lasts from December 26 to January 1, and the celebration is derived from pan-African harvest festival traditions.

Kwanzaa—which is derived from the word “first” in Swahili—takes inspiration from the start of the harvest season in Africa, when the first crops are gathered. It’s a time that’s been celebrated throughout the continent for generations. During the week, families gather to give gifts, share feasts, and light candles in honor of their ancestors and their hopes for the future.

The "psychopath" Greene referred to is Maulana Karenga, the creator of Kwanzaa.
Karenga considers himself a "political prisoner" because he was sentenced to prison on counts of felony assault and false imprisonment in 1971.

One of the alleged victims detailed how Karenga and others tortured her in a report.
She claimed they stripped her of her clothes, beat her with an electrical cord, and forced water down her throat with a hose.
While Greene condemned Kwanzaa — which she incorrectly called a religion — her GOP counterparts have previously offered holiday greetings to those who celebrate it.

In 2017, President Donald Trump issued a statement, saying: "Let us celebrate during this joyous time the richness of the past and look with hope toward a brighter future."

Back in 2013, the Republican National Committee also wished people a Happy Kwanzaa.

"Wishing those celebrating a joyous time with loved ones and a time of meaningful reflection ahead of the New Year," the organization wrote in a tweet.
Representatives for Greene and the College Republican National Committee did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.
