Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is pressing U.S. regulators to hold the financial sector accountable, blaming it for being a significant contributor to climate change.

According to Bloomberg, Warren cited a Sierra Club and Center for American Progress study revealing that eight of the largest U.S. banks and 10 of the nation's largest asset managers finance roughly 2 billion tons of emissions of carbon dioxide combined.

Warren announced on Twitter Monday: "The volume of greenhouse gas emitted by the financial-services industry is outrageous. If it were a country, it would rank as the fifth-largest emitter in the world. Regulators need to crack down on the financial sector's role in the #ClimateCrisis."

According to the study, continued unrestrained emissions mean that intense weather events will just become worse, and "efforts to mitigate emissions will only become more challenging and costly." The authors of the study pressed the Biden administration to take steps such as measuring banks' possible losses due to climate change.

Furthermore, the Securities and Exchange Commission, as part of the administration's attempt to treat climate change, plans to propose regulations asking corporations to publicly release their "climate risks," Bloomberg notes.

Furthermore, Warren has launched a Twitter attack against SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The attack capped a year throughout which SpaceX had operated a truly operational spaceline. The company further made great strides in designing the Starship, a rocket that vows to revolutionize space travel, bringing both the moon and Mars within reach of astronauts.

In all, SpaceX launched 31 of its workhorse Falcon 9 rockets. Most of the launches deployed Starlink communication satellites that the company wishes would deliver internet communications across the planet. SpaceX further launched a variety of satellites and probes for NASA, the U.S. military, and commercial customers, including the DART asteroid impact inquiry.

The Falcon 9 launched both crew and cargo Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. One Crew Dragon, the Inspiration4, shipped a civilian team into low Earth orbit to raise funds for St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital.

Warren launched an opening shot by tweeting, "Let's change the rigged tax code so The Person of the Year will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else."

Musk, who insists he is ready to pay an unprecedented $11 billion in taxes due to the sale of some Tesla stock, fired back stating, "You remind me of when I was a kid and my friend's angry Mom would just randomly yell at everyone for no reason." He further called Warren "Senator Karen" using a term applied to a woman addicted to complaining.
