Nearly 40 American citizens and lawful permanent residents left behind from President Biden's messy departure from Afghanistan were evacuated Friday by a volunteer civilian group.

Thirty-nine American citizens and lawful residents were evacuated from the war-torn nation Friday. According to the New York Post, they arrived at New York City's JFK airport on Saturday morning thanks to the volunteer group Project Dynamo.

Project Dynamo gets funding from Save Our Allies, which is affiliated with The Independence Fund.

Among the evacuees, over a dozen children including an 11-month-old American citizen,

"This is the first known major airlift rescue with American boots on the ground since the U.S. government abandoned the country of Afghanistan in August," James Judge, a spokesman for the organization, announced in a statement.

Two members of Project Dynamo reportedly flew into Afghanistan from an unknown country earlier this week and got evacuees to a safehouse near Kabul with a collection of volunteers.

Stern, a co-founder of Project Dynamo, announced this is the first evacuation that's been pulled off without the use of a refugee camp since the Taliban took control of the nation following President Biden's sloppy, and widely panned departure.

"No American or Permanent Resident should be forced to stay in a refugee camp while attempting to return to their own families, homes and communities in the United States," Stern said in a statement.

After being vaccinated and tested for the coronavirus, the evacuees were flown out of Kabul airport on two flights paid for by Berry Aviation.

On Monday, the Biden administration admitted it left hundreds more U.S. citizens behind in Afghanistan after chaotic departure. The numbers, disclosed by the State Department, are drastically higher than the estimates President Biden presented regarding the number of Americans left behind in Afghanistan after U.S. forces left the nation.

Furthermore, a suicide bomb attack outside the Abbey Gate at Kabul's airport in Afghanistan on Aug. 26 killed 13 U.S. service members and injured no less than 18 more, U.S. officials announced – making it the deadliest day for U.S. troops in 10 years.

As the U.S. military prepared to depart Afghanistan in August, it took only 11 days for the Taliban to regain control of the country after 20 years of occupation — a feat Biden announced was "highly unlikely."

Since then, the locale has been plunged into chaos. Afghans have reported that they are hungry and unable to buy food while some have been pushed to sell their children so they can back the rest of their family.

Recently, an Afghan volleyball player on the girls' national team was beheaded by the Taliban after she spoke out regarding the risks female athletes meet in the nation. In October, images emerged that revealed the Taliban was again conducting public hangings — a shocking display reminiscent of the Islamic militant group's brutal regime of decades past.
