On Tuesday, Socialist superstar Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) insisted American workers rely on illegal aliens crossing our border "to survive." At the same time, she drummed up support for Senate amnesty measures.

"We just lived through one, almost two years now, of a pandemic… where our country relied on undocumented people to survive," she announced, not acknowledging how inexpensive labor drives down wages for American citizens.

Ocasio-Cortez insisted that American companies employed illegal immigrants throughout the pandemic to perform essential tasks, like stocking grocery shelves and performing elder care.

"Who else was sanitizing our buildings, who else was caring for our elders, who else was harvesting our food, who else was stocking our shelves except immigrant labor in our country?" she asked.

Despite border patrol agents encountering 164,303 migrants along the southwest border in October before their being freed into the interior of the United States, flooding the American economy with inexpensive labor while hiking rent prices, Ocasio-Cortez demanded millions of illegal immigrants be granted amnesty.

"Our demand is for the Senate to override the parliamentarian. Include a full path to citizenship," she stated regarding President Biden's reconciliation package full of leftist goodies.

Earlier in 2021, the Senate parliamentarian ruled amnesty could not be included in Biden's package because of its non-relation to budgeting measures.

Democrats in both the House and Senate see their reconciliation spending bill as a unique opportunity to pass immigration reform. Ocasio-Cortez called it a "ventana de oportunidad" -- Spanish for "window of opportunity."

The filibuster threshold on a reconciliation bill is lowered from 60 to 51. Therefore, if Senate Democrats stay united, they could overhaul the immigration system with no GOP votes.

Yet, the bills passed under reconciliation are subject to the "Byrd Rule," which bars provisions that do not have a fiscal impact. Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough determines which parts of the bill fall under that rule and those must be removed.

"The Senate needs to step up and override the parliamentarian… the parliamentarian was not elected. It is not an elected position." She continued without recognizing that both the Senate and the House are institutions run by elected officials in a Democratic republic.

It appears highly unlikely that Ocasio-Cortez, Garcia, and their fellow Progressives will get what they want on immigration reform. The Senate is evenly split at 50-50, and it is almost certain that at least one Democrat would decline to vote to overrule the parliamentarian.
