"And we have to be able to stand up to them, and we have to push them to reckon with the fact that their party, right now, is normalizing anti-Muslim bigotry."

On Tuesday, CNN shared a video unearthed from a Staten Island, New York Conservative Party dinner in September where Boebert made a suicide bomb joke directed at Omar, who is a hijab-wearing Muslim.
McCarthy not only defended Boebert's remarks, insisting she had already apologized, yet he further questioned why he didn't receive apologies when Democrats made disparaging remarks aimed at Republican members.

In the video of Boebert's comments, she announced: "One of my staffers, on his first day with me, got into an elevator in the Capitol. And in that elevator, we were joined by Ilhan Omar."

"Well, it was just us three in there and I looked over and I said, 'Well, lookey there, it's the Jihad Squad,'" she told the audience, smiling as the room broke into laughter and applause.

In the same clip, Boebert called Omar and Representative Rashida Tlaib, who is likewise Muslim, "evil' and black-hearted."

A slew of Democratic lawmakers denounced the remarks and a few GOP lawmakers joined them.
"And they are being attacked for condemning it," Omar announced of the Republicans supporting her, "which tells you that their conference condones this and that's why it's dangerous."

"Because people across the world – not just in the United States – are seeing this, and they are worried," she went on.
Omar maintained: "This isn't just about me, this is about all the young girls across this country who wear the hijab so proudly, who are afraid for their lives."

McCarthy defended Boebert and announced she apologized publicly and attempted to call Omar and meet in person, though was denied the opportunity. Many say that Boebert actually took back her apology in her short call with Omar.
McCarthy indicated he wouldn't take any action against Boebert for her comments about Omar.
