Seven children are still hospitalized one week after the Christmas parade massacre in Waukesha, Wisconsin, that killed six people and wounded dozens more.

Three are in serious condition, three are in fair condition, and one is in good shape, a spokeswoman for Children's Wisconsin said Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal. Sixteen children were originally admitted to the hospital after the attack; two were most recently discharged over the weekend.

Three of the children are in serious condition, three in fair condition, and one is in good condition, the hospital announced.

“We hold deep appreciation for the care and compassion of the Children’s Wisconsin team and the ongoing support of our community,” Children’s Hospital Wisconsin tweeted.

Darrell Brooks, the suspected driver, was arrested and charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide. When Brooks made his first court appearance on Tuesday, prosecutors announced that a sixth person, a child, had also died, which could end in an additional homicide charge for Brooks.

Brooks, 39, allegedly used a red Ford Escape to plow through revelers at an annual Christmas celebration in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, but his life of crime started 22 years ago when he was just 17 years old.

Over the next two decades, Brooks would proceed to wreak havoc across three states as he racked up convictions for abusing his partners, raping and impregnating a teenager and a consistent streak of other violent crimes.

A review of his history — patched together from court documents, criminal records, interviews, and public records — reveals that all along the way, not a single social safety net caught him, until it was too late.

Brooks could spend the rest of his life in jail if sentenced on all counts. A judge set bail at $5 million.

The child who died has been identified as 8-year-old Jackson Sparks. The five others who were killed have been identified as James Kulich, 52, Tamara Durand, 52, Wilhelm Gospel, 81, Leanna Owen, 71, and Virginia Sorenson, 79.

A candlelight vigil was held Sunday in Waukesha, including a moment of silence at 4:39 p.m., exactly one week after the attack, to honor the victims.

"From the very first moment, our community has come together to help those suffering, and we will continue to do so," said Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly.

"Our response during the past week and in the future will show that those who care vastly outnumber those who do not, and that evil will not triumph," he said. "We will grieve as a community and we will heal as a community."
