After 'hiding' the information that Brain Laundrie, the fiancé of murdered hiker Gabby Petito, had a gun and should have been deemed 'armed and dangerous as the nation searched for him, the FBI is facing blowback. Laundrie, 23, was alleged to have died on Tuesday from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to his lawyer Steve Bertolino.

When Laundrie went, Bertolino informed DailyMail.com that one of the family's guns was gone, but they kept it hidden because they didn't want the public to be alarmed. The whereabouts of the gun is still unknown.

“We didn’t want the public going into a frenzy on that. I don’t think they considered him dangerous to anybody he met on the street,” Bertolino said.

Before he vanished, he had a gun hanging in his bedroom, according to images collected by a real estate website. The FBI has been refusing to answer concerns about whether Laundrie should be labeled 'armed and dangerous' for weeks.

The public is reportedly outraged by the FBI's decision to suppress the information, with some asking, "What is the FBI hiding?" and “Why do we even have an FBI?” 'Wow,' said one Twitter user, who goes by the handle Tessarossa. I was watching the news and this glaringly apparent question didn't even cross my mind. All of this is illogical. 'What is the FBI trying to hide?'

“Why do we even have an FBI?” wondered another person. “The public was never alerted that Brian Laundrie might be armed during the entire search for him!'” Others questioned why officials did not release crucial information despite the fact that the public was cooperating in the search, with several claiming to have met him.

“Le and FBI have a lot to answer for in the Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie case knowing that he had a firearm when he went "missing" and not notifying the public of an armed and dangerous person knowing the public were looking 4 him smh.”

“If the pistol isn't recovered, maybe the FBI should ask the father to go collect it for them,' one joked. Furthermore, the Petito family's lawyer said that 'other individuals” could be charged in connection with their daughter's murder.

The family was urged to “wait for the United States Attorney's Office to make a determination on whether any further individuals will be charged,” and they stated they will make a statement after the decision.

In September, the 23-year-old went missing after returning alone from a trip with Petito, whose body was discovered in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park.

On October 20, his remains were recovered in a Florida reserve near his parents' home. Although an initial autopsy proved unclear, Steve Bertolino, the Laundrie family lawyer, claimed on Tuesday that the forensic anthropologist who took over told him that Laundrie died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
