Trump announced to The Post Sunday he still backs Malliotakis, the single New York City Republican in the House of Representatives whose district takes in Staten Island and southern Brooklyn, being one of the 13 Republicans who broke ranks and voted for President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill.
The former President ripped the 13 Republicans who voted for the bill throughout an address at a recent National Republican Congressional Committee dinner.

Though Trump told The Post all is well after Malliotakis asked him last week to address the issue.
“She spoke to me. I still support her,” Trump declared of Malliotakis, who overthrew Democratic incumbent Rep. Max Rose last year in what is considered a purple or toss-up district.

Trump’s continued support of Malliotakis boosts her odds against any potential primary challenges and further improves her chances of winning reelection next year.
Malliotakis announced she called Trump to talk about their disagreement and attempt to patch things up.

“I spoke to President Trump. He’s still with me. I’m still with him. It’s important to me,” stated Malliotakis when asked regarding her relationship with the previous president.

Trump has threatened to back primary challengers against most of the House Republicans who voted for the infrastructure bill, yet Malliotakis was not listed among them. Pro-vote Reps. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania further escaped Trump’s enemies list.

Malliotakis defended her infrastructure vote to spruce up run-down roads and bridges, and ports.
The congresswoman further possibly improved her standing Friday when she blasted and voted against President Biden’s almost $2 trillion Build Back Better Bill.
The legislation, valued at roughly $1.75 trillion, faces a more challenging path in the Senate, where conservative Democratic Senator Krysten Sinema (D-Arizona) and Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) have shown fears about some of its parts.
“While the fight against President Biden’s socialist agenda took an expected setback today with Democrats jamming his spending plan without considering the real impact of the cost, I’m confident we will be successful in working with our Senate partners to stop this dead on arrival bill from becoming law,” Malliotakis stated.
