Marines To Pay More For A 'Woke Officer' Than Most Soldiers

A job listing with the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) seeking a "diversity, equity and inclusion" adviser with a starting salary of $144,128 has gained widespread social media attention.

The USMC is hiring the adviser to ensure that all "internal and external communications reflect diversity, equity, and inclusion," or DIE, and to develop tools that "enable shifting the USMC cultural paradigm for diversity, equity, and inclusion."

The DEI adviser will collaborate with the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and the Diversity Review Board (DRB). Duties include "the assessment of diversity and inclusion program effectiveness; design and lead the implementation of process improvement initiatives; and provide executive level consultation," as well as the development and administering of training and education guidance to the CDO.

"You will drive strategic management concepts and principles, including assisting with the development of Marine Corps policy, supporting the USMC's mission, vision, values, strategic goals and objectives," the listing later adds.

The position is based in Quantico, Virginia, but is listed as telework eligible, "as determined by the agency policy."

There is no education requirement for the position, but only U.S. citizens are eligible.

The job listing was first reported on Twitter by National Review’s Michael Brendan Dougherty, who revealed that the adviser will be paid more than Navy captains.

Other critics bashed the job listing as further injecting the tenets of critical race theory into the military.

The Marine Corps is a part of the Department of the Navy, which announced in May the appointment of a Strategic Planning Team to "develop an action plan to promote DEI in department-wide policies, programs and operations."

This comes after Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger acknowledged that the Corps had issues identifying toxic leaders, which could be a primary issue for his plan to retain more Marines.

On Wednesday Berger released a 20-page document outlining how the Corps will better oust toxic leaders and change its culture to generally start treating Marines better.

“We have to treat people like human beings instead of inventory,” Berger told reporters on Tuesday.

The changes come as the Marine Corps prepares for a potential war with China. The increased complexity from the battlefield will see the Corps move away from a policy that intentionally pushed out 75 percent of first-term enlistees in favor of a younger, less experienced Corps.

The Marine Corps’ old ways of identifying toxic leaders have still let some slip through, but the commandant hopes new reviews and a focus on diversity will create a healthier climate where Marines will thrive and want to stay.
