Thursday, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) debuted a dress inspired by a previous dress famously worn by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

Ocasio-Cortez (AOC)'s infamous dress was pioneered at a gala event in NYC. The gown was white with red letters spelling out "Tax the rich." Boebert's dress is the opposite, it has white lettering on red fabric saying "Let's go Brandon."

The new dress was shown to the internet on Thursday on Boebert's Twitter account, captioned "It's not a phrase, it's a movement!"

AOC's dress drew terrible criticism at the time. The message "tax the rich" seemed ironic to many people, as it was worn at a gala event where the entry fee was $30k, and tables started at $275k. Also, AOC was not masked for the event, while all of the staff working there were required to wear one.

Ocasio-Cortez defended her attendance the day after, saying it was her “responsibility” to attend.

“And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public,” she tweeted. “I was one of several in attendance this evening,” she noted defensively.

Boebert’s dress caught the eye of some, who compared it to socialist darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s dress from the Met Gala two months ago.

The "let's go Brandon" dress, in turn, goes beyond being a mere response to AOC's dress. The message "let's go Brandon" reaches back to Oct. 2, when an NBC reporter at the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Talladega deliberately tried to gloss over chants of "f*ck Joe Biden" in the background. Since that time, "let's go Brandon" has served as a euphemistic stand-in for the other chant.

“Let’s go, Brandon” has massively gained popularity among Republicans in recent weeks as a snub to President Biden.

The phrase was first picked up after an NBC Sports reporter said NASCAR fans chanting “F— Joe Biden” last month were actually shouting in support of driver Brandon Brown. The phrase has since been printed on shirts, hats and even gun parts.

Boebert’s tweet came two days after Republicans made several upsets across the nation on Election Day, taking back the governorship in Virginia and a key state Senate seat in New Jersey.

Many House Republicans, along with the Republican National Committee, likened the victories as the start of a “red wave” going into the 2022 midterm elections.
